To promote unity in the body of Christ at Virginia Tech through prayer, worship, and repentance for the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

As a Virginia Tech undergraduate in the spring of 2002, Ryan Newcomb saw a vision of a crowd of people gathered together worshipping God on the Virginia Tech Drillfield in the center of campus. Recognizing that there is something wonderful and powerful in the body of Christ coming together to worship God, he and two others worked together in the Spring of 2003 to coordinate the first vtONE sponsored event called Prepare the Way. Eight years later, God is still continuing to inspire united worship and prayer on this campus and in this community through vtONE.

1 Corinthians 12:12
“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” – [NASB]

vtONE works to support unity in the body of Christ at Virginia Tech. One of the ways we do this is by hosting united, campus-wide worship events each semester. As different groups, we come together with essentially one thing in common…our PASSION for the Lord. We come from BCM, CCF, CCVT, CO, Cross Training (AIA/FCA), Cru, Navs, NLCF, Impact, IV, Manifest, RUF, Wesley, XA, and others. We all may call different ministries our home but each one of us loves JESUS with all our heart, all our mind, and all our soul. We unite to glorify Him and live in such a way that the world sees Christ through us.

vtONE also works to support the individual ministries throughout the semester in any way we can. We are in no way the overseers or the overall coordinators of the campus ministries at Virginia Tech, but we work very hard to stay connected with them so that everything we do is relevant to the community as a whole. Ultimately, we want to see the Kingdom of God come to this campus, and we want to see people’s lives changed as they encounter Jesus Christ.

The campus-wide worship events are, as one former vtONE leader put it, “an opportunity for the Body of Christ at Virginia Tech to become aware of itself.” We have a passion to see the Christian body at Virginia Tech unite in worship and prayer, to repent before the Lord, and to beg God to change our hearts and the hearts of students on our campus for the advancement of the kingdom of God. Since the spring of 2007, we have been blessed to have vtONE worship bands (made up of students and staff from different ministries) lead the worship times for the campus-wide worship events. Over the past few years, we’ve been able to record the worship from these events and produce worship CDs so that people can experience a part of what God is doing here at Virginia Tech.

Most of the Christian ministries and organizations at Virginia Tech support vtONE (even if they just encourage their students to come to the events). However, our Sponsor and Associated organizations influence the direction of vtONE as well as the united, campus-wide worship events.
